Abedzadeh Says Farewell To The National Team!!
Ahmadreza Abedzadeh, the Iranian star goalkeeper who has played many years
for the Iranian national team resigned from the national team yesterday. He is suffering
from a knee injury and will not be ready for the Asian Cup.
"I have a bad injury and can not compete in Lebanon. I prefer to give chance to the
younger goalkeepers. I love the national team and only think for it's success.", says
Abedzadeh.
Ahmadreza's controversial re-selection to the national team by Talebi despite the bad
results of his medical tests was due to the pressure created by the fans and media.
After his resigning, Jalal Talebi said:" I admire Abedzadeh's decision. He is
withdrawing to give his place to the younger players. He is a big goalkeeper in Iran and
his career should not end after this. I respect him for that."
"After Lebanon, I will decide if I say farewell for good or not. For now It's best
that I resign. I wish all the best for the team in the Asian Cup.", said Abedzadeh.
Kia Scores As Hamburg Defeats Schalke 2:0
Schalke lost for the first time this season when they went down 2-0 to
Hamburg on Saturday in front of 51.366 fans. Hamburg started with Fukal, who did a great
job for Panadic and Barbarez instead of the injured playmaker Cardoso. Yeboah played in
the center.
The away side, who are still in second place with 14 points, started the match more
impressively, going forward whenever they could but the home team, who are now in seventh
spot, were never out of it at any stage and took the lead on 35 minutes through striker
Marek Heinz. It was the Czechs first goal for Hamburg in a Bundesliga-match and he
knocked it in from 11 yards after a fine pass from fellow forward Anthony Yeboah. The
second goal came late in the second half when Iran international Mehdi Mahdavikia pushed
in after a goalmouth scramble.
Schalke were unhappy to be a goal down before the break and went all out for the
equaliser, albeit unsuccessfully. On 38 minute Gerald Asamoah, who had been having a good
match, put in a cross that was worthy of better attention from his team-mates. The second
half looked to be following the pattern of the first, as Schalke continued to endeavour to
get back in contention.
However, the hosts put the encounter beyond any doubt when Mahdavikia bundled in the
second after Schalke custodian Reck failed to hold a cross from Stig Tøfting.
The often discussed performance of the defense was good, Hoogma did a great job, like
Fukal. Hertzsch did much better than against Athens - Asamoah had no really good chances.
Line-ups:
Hamburg SV: Butt - Fukal, Hoogma, Hertzsch - Tøfting, Kovac, Hollerbach - Barbarez -
Mahdavikia (90. Bester), Yeboah (62. Ketelaer), Heinz (79. Fischer)
FC Schalke 04: Reck - Hajto, Waldoch, van Kerckhoven - Latal, Thon (33. Nemec), Oude
Kamphuis, Böhme - Möller - Sand, Asamoah (64. Mulder)

Two Assists From Kia Not Enough For HSV
Matthias Sammer and his Dortmund celebrated their third consecutive away
win after beating Hamburg 3-2 in Volkparkstadion thanks to a Heiko Herrlich brace. Sammer
sticked to his usual taciturn statements despite watching an amazing game with five goals
after which his side went top.
"We have achieved nothing so far and we will be relegated at the end of the season if
we dont win any more games," he said.
Hamburg started with three new players on the field: Stig Tøfting, Milan Fukal and Marcel
Ketelaer came in for Martin Groth (injured), Bernd Hollerbach (injured) and Anthony Yeboah
(tired). The czech international Fukal played only one half, because he was already booked
and the referee seemed not to be on his side.
Such gloom appeared incongruous after three straight away wins and Otto Addo opened the
scoring after 31 minutes when he benefited from an Ingo Hertzsch blunder as the German
international gave the ball away.
However, Hamburg were level on the stroke of half-time and against the run of play when
former Dortmund player Sergej Barbarez scored with an exquisite header following a cross
from Iranian international Mehdi Mahdavikia. A carbon-copy goal but Hamburg ahead four
minutes into the second half when Barbarez headed home another Mahdavikia cross.
The Bosnian forward did his best to offend the Dortmund fans with provocative celebrations
and there were some skirmishes as the Dortmund fans came to terms with suddenly being a
goal down.
Their team, however, remained focused and pressed forward with great determination. The
goals were lacking until a certain Heiko Herrlich stepped forward to score twice within
five minutes to turn the game round. After a foul of Ingo Hertzsch Herrlich made his
second goal by penalty.
Line-ups:
Hamburg SV: Butt - Fukal (46. Fischer), Panadic, Hoogma, Hertzsch - Tøfting, Cardoso (75.
Yeboah), Kovac - Mahdavikia (60. Präger), Barbarez, Ketelaer
Borussia Dortmund: Lehmann - Wörns, Heinrich, Metzelder - Evanilson, Stevic, Oliseh, Dede
- Ricken (74. Reina), Addo - Herrlich
Goals: 0:1 Addo (32.), 1:1 Barbarez (45.), 2:1 Barbarez (49.), 2:2 Herrlich (76.), 2:3
Herrlich (81., PEN)

Another Great Daei!!
Ali Daei has been on fire in his past four matches with Hertha Berlin. He
has scored in all four games and this time scored and assisted in the game against
Stuttgart. Ali Daei who came in in the 56th minute, scored in minute 71 from 30 meters and
assisted his team-mate Alex Alves in 79th minute to achieve a great 2:0 victory for his
team.
Ali Daei who has been very dissatisfied with sitting on the bench for Alves and has
blasted the coach several times in the media, has showed very effective in his recent
matches and this can lead him to be a starter for his team.
Rafat Scores Twice to Defeat Zobahan
ESFAHAN, September 16: Persepolis defeated hosts Zobahan 2-1 on Saturday in a match postponed from week five league games. Persepolis opening the scoring early in the match when a cross by Emamifar in minute 3 was headed into goal by Payam Rafat. The Zobahan keeper, Babaei, was largely at fault for the goal as he exited the goal in hopes of blocking the ball as the cross was sent into his penalty box. Zobahan would equalize in minute 50 when Zobahan penetrated through the right side. Davoud Fanaei failed to block a header by Ostavari, as the ball deflected off of Fanae and entered the Persepolis goal. Following the equalizer, the game turned physical. Within minutes of the Zobahan goal, Rahbarifard attempted to hit the referee, Batkhaei, when he was given a yellow card. The incident resulted in Mohammad Khordbin coming into the pitch to calm his players down. Surprisingly Rahbarifard escaped the incident with only a yellow card.
Payam Rafat scored Persepolis' winning goal in minute 59. A high cross into the Zobahan penalty box by Hamid Estili was headed by Rafat into the Zobahan goal. Neither side had defined tactics in this match, as players on both teams played the entire match at will and without a game plan. The frequent use of high balls created confusion in center mid field. Neither team was able to put together three successful passes during the game.
Behnam Seraj and Ahmadreza Abedzadeh were not present in the stadium. Ali Karimi could not play today as he had 'two yellow card' bookings in previous games.
Starting Lineup:
Persepolis: Fanaei, Peyrovani, Ansarian, Rahbarifard, Emamifar, Bahonar, Kavianpour, Estili, Halali, Bazik, Rafat.
Zobahan: Babaei, Rezaei, Taghipour, Haghdoost, Dehghan, Mohagheghian, Petrosian, Ramezani, Ostavari, Azizi, Mohammadvand.
Scorers: Rafat ('3), Ostavari ('50), Rafat ('59)
Ali Daei the Iranian star striker shows once again that he
can be a valuable asset for his team in international matches. Daei who scored in the last match just minutes after coming in repeated
his magic by replacing his rival, Alves at the interval.
It was Zimbru Chisinau which was on the score board just 9 minutes into the game, by a
strike from Sergiu Iepureanu to put the home team ahead but Michael Preetz leveled the
game at 1-1 before the first half.
Ali Daei scored from close range at 67th minute to give his team a sweet away win.
Goals:
Zimbru - Sergiu Iepureanu 9
Hertha - Michael Preetz 23, Ali Daei 67
Halftime: 1-1; Attendance: 6,000
Three goals by Italy striker Filippo Inzaghi saved Juventus from defeat
against Hamburg on Wednesday in the Champions' League when his last goal was from a
penalty shot in 88th minute, which ensured his team a 4-4 draw.
Hamburg in their Champions' League debut impressed highly and bridged a two goal deficit
at one point to take a 4-3 lead.
But the German sides courageous comeback was fainted by a foolish error from Bosnian
forward Sergej Barbarez who needlessly tugged on Inzaghis shirt in the area and
conceded the late spot-kick.
Barbarezs recklessness cost the Germans a historic victory but it took nothing away
from their gutsy performance. They were very much Juventuss equals and were
astounding in their forward drive, refusing to say die even when things were running
against them on the scoreboard.
The Italian visitors took an early lead when Juventus defender Igor Tudor, unmarked from
seven yards out, scored with a header on sixth minute. Both sides then had their chances -
Hollerbach's fierce drive was saved by Van der Saar and Butt thwarted del Piero - before
Tony Yeboah equalised on 16 minutes when he was left totally unmarked from Rodolfo
Cardoso's free kick.
A high speed and entertaining football with a plenty of chances for both sides, star
Juventus striker Filippo Inzaghi appeared to kill off Hamburg when he struck twice in the
36th and 52nd minutes to give the visiting side a 3-1 lead.
Juventus tired though and the home side, fired on by a vocal 48,500 sell-out crowd, pulled
themselves back into the match with aggressive drives forward.
Rarely does a side get as many chances to score against Juventus but Hamburg were sloppy
in converting them, with Cardoso and Kovac both wasting fine opportunities. At the other
end, Juve substitute Darko Kovacevic almost put the game out of the home side's reach but
he hit the post after 62 minutes.
Hamburg's reward for some excellent attacking play finally came in the 65th minute when
Iranian forward Mehdi Mahdivikia pushed home the ball from a meter while on his hands and
knees. He was then chopped down in the area five minutes later, earning his side a penalty
which goalkeeper Jörg Butt, famous in the Bundesliga for never missing a penalty kick,
converted.
Encouraged by Juventuss failing fitness Hamburg delivered what seemed to be a death
blow when Mahdivikia fired a low cross into a crowd of players in the goalmouth. The ball
travelled straight to Nico Kovac who swatted home what appeared to be the winner - only
for Sergej Barbarezs colossal shirt-pulling blunder to gift Juventus and Inzaghi an
88th minute equaliser.
"I think everybody saw how great football can be. We made a great game and should
have won, but, Juve is still one of the best teams in the world," Marcel Ketelaer,
the promising Hamburg youngster, said.
Hamburg SV: Butt - Panadic, Hoogma, Hertzsch - Kovac - Groth (27. Töfting), Hollerbach
(46. Ketelaer) - Cardoso (67. Präger) - Mahdavikia, Barbarez - Yeboah
Juventus Torino: van der Sar - Tudor, Ferrara, Iuliano (59. Birindelli) - O'Neill (71.
Bachini) - Tacchinardi, Davids, Pessotto - Zidane - Inzaghi, Del Piero (59. Kovacevic)

London, Sept. 13, IRNA -- Karim Bagheri had his first run
out for Charlton Reserves on Tuesday night after returning from Iran following the sudden
death of his father two weeks ago. But the Iranian international midfield player was substituted at half-time as the
south-east London club lost 2-1 at Coventry in the English midlands.
Charlton Reserves coach Glyn Snodin described the team's performance as
"disappointing" after winning their two opening games in the English Premier
Reserves league.
Bagheri had one shot saved by the Coventry goalkeeper's legs just after Charlton equalised
in the 21st minute. The rebound was hit over the bar by Kemal Izzet, brother of Leicester
City's Turkish international.
In his first game for Charlton reserves on August 24, the Iranian
international made one goal in an impressive performance against
Southampton.
Since being transferred by Pirouzi in Tehran, Bagheri has been
acquainting himself with the English style of playing before making
his expected fist team debut within the next 10 days.
Mahdavikia Scores and Assists as Hamburg Thrash VfL Bochum 4:0
Hamburg sent a clear warning to her Champions
League rivals Juventus with a comfortable 4-0 away-win over the newly-promoted Bochum the
former club of Mahdavikia. The visitors will be lining up against Carlo Ancelottis
side in mid-week, and are looking in fine fettle - which must be in sharp comparison to
the Turin club whose domestic league has yet to begin.
The team of coach Frank Pagelsdorf started with Panadic instead of
Fukal, Barbarez for Yeboah, Mahdavikia for Präger and Cardoso as
playmaker.
Hamburg dominated proceedings from start to finish on Saturday, and
Bochum coach Ralf Zumdick admitted: "This was a lesson for us, sometimes we are just
too naive for the Bundesliga. We don't know when we have to be aggressive."
That was certainly the case with his midfielder Peter Peschel, who was
sent off for two bookable offences after just 28 minutes. With Hamburg
already leading 1-0 through a Niko Kovac header, this was the invitation the visitors
needed to wrap up the victory.
Iranian international Mehdi Mahdavikia, who found too much space in
the Bochum back line, notched the second goal after half-an-hour. New-signing Barbarez
added a third shortly after the break, receiving a fine ball from Niko Kovac to finish
with ease from seven yards.
The fourth goal, again from Barbarez, was the pick of the bunch. He
picked up a long ball, ran into the box, glided past one defender and
rounded keeper Van Duijnhoven before walking the ball into the net. The gifted Bosnian
nearly completed his hat-trick when his powerful drive came back off the post, while
Danish international Stig Tøfting and Martin Groth both wasted good chances to increase
what was already a substantial lead.
Line-ups:
VfL Bochum: Van Duijnhoven - Stickroth, Toplak, Mamic (57. Ristau),
Meichelbeck - Peschel, Dickhaut, Schindzielorz, Freier, Bastürk - Weber(61. Maric)
Hamburger SV: Butt - Panadic, Hoogma, Hertzsch - Groth, Kovac,
Hollerbach (46. Tøfting), Cardoso (61. Präger) - Barbarez, Mahdavikia, Ketelaer (79.
